Gabby When I first
brought Gabby home she was lame. At least she was after what ever
they had given her to make her sound of the auction wore off! On
examination, we discovered that Gabby had one front hoof that was
mal-formed. Why, I couldn't tell you, but it was bad enough that
our blacksmith when consulted just shook his head. "How good a
horse is she?" He asked. We couldn't really answer, since we had
just brought her in, but early rides had been promising. We shoes
on Gabby and were able to use her off and on that first summer.
The mal-formed foot kept throwing the shoe, and without it, Gabby
was dead lame.
After that
first summer, with the consultation once again of our blacksmith,
we decided to gamble the extra cost and give Gabby a year to see
if we could improve that foot. We took off her shoes in Sept, and
from then until the next June, Gabby was on a full paid vacation.
In June we put the shoes back on and........Gabby made it through
the summer! Not only did she make it, but turned out to be a
favorite of many. We have high hopes for Gabby. She is young and
sweet. She is a good size for most people to ride. Gabby can be
used for beginners, but primarily at this time she is used for
intermediates through beginner jump. She is a great beginner
canter horse and even plays a bit of polo when needed. Her
shoes came off once again first thing this fall and will not go
back on again before next summer. We think she is worth the
investment.
