Mouse:
Mouse came to Cedar Lodge from one of
our clients to be broke. He had been foaled from one her mares
and a local thoroughbred stallion. Between getting married,
having a child and starting a new job, Mouse had managed to
become 6 years old and still was not broke........at all. After
some very bad experiences, Mouse's owner decided she was in over
her head and turned to us for help. Mouse broke out very easily
with the exception of two things: He was spooky and he was hard
to catch. For these reasons, we didn't think Mouse would be a
very good horse for this client. We offered to buy him, and
became Mouse's owners in the fall of 1992.
The summer of '93 that is how I
managed to be showing a Pre-Green Show horse that was going to
his first horse show at the age of 9 years old. Mouse was a good
show horse. He has a beautiful jump, a ground covering stride and
a nice way of going, but he was never consistent on his lead
changes. This stopped him from staying a show team regular.
Instead, Mouse now and then starts a lucky student in their first
couple of shows. This is only occasionally, because it is too
hard for us to loose Mouse from our regular program!
Mouse has managed
to start several of Cedar Lodge Show Team regulars in cross rails
at their first horse shows. Emma Donner, on Cedar Lodge jr.
staff in 2006 won cross rail year end champion on Mouse at the
beginning of her show career some years bac and is now in
the 3 foot division on her own horse, Jack. Since that time,
Mouse has helped several others with their first showing
experiences, including Emma L., Ashley B., and Erin R. to name a
few. Mouse has been around long enough that Chris often
wonders what she would do with out him. He will swing a beginner
or intermediate class in a pinch, but he is in much demand in the
advanced flat through the intermediate jump.
