Full Vaulting Program
For a detailed list of all of our vaulting programs, their fees and descriptions, visit our Riding Programs Explained page, or an excel spread sheet listing all riding and vaulting programs, their features and specifications Here. Cedar
Lodge has had vaulting (often referred to gymnastics on horseback) in
their program since 1978 and over the last several years, it has grown
to be a very popular program. Because of the increasing demand, Cedar
Lodge has implemented several different programs to assure that we are
able to meet all of our vaulters needs. All campers that come to camp are welcome to one introduction to vaulting class
with their summer camp fee. We love vaulting, and we are sure you will,
too! All campers that pay for any of our riding programs are
automatically invited to participate in one vaulting class per day, six
days per week. But what about those campers that would like to vault,
but have no interest in riding? Welcome to the:
Full Vaulting Program
For
those campers that are interested in vaulting, but have no interest in
any of our riding programs, we have developed the Full Vaulting
program. Those in the Full Vaulting program are welcome to come to
vaulting one time per day, 6 days a week. Classes are open to
campers regardless of their
riding level, vaulting level or age. The cost of this program is 62.00/week.
Working first on the vaulting barrel, campers learn proper mounting and
dismounting, balance, and form, before moving on to our specially trained
vaulting horse. There, they are taught the same movements that they
practiced on the barrel at a stand still, walk, trot and finally,
sometimes a canter for very advanced vaulters. The vaulting horse is
controlled at all times by a lunger, who has the horse on a long line
called a "Lunge" line and controls the horse with voice commands. Vaulting
is a unique combination of horse, dance, drama and gymnastic skills. That
perhaps explains it's popularity. It appeals to many for many different
reasons.
Vaulting,
though sounding and looking difficult to the untrained eye, has proved
to be extremely popular with all ages and abilities. Vaulting has
helped improve the rhythm, confidence and balance of our more novice
riders and has added an additional riding challenge for our more
advanced horse enthusiasts. Even the youngest most inexperienced rider is able to
maneuver a "Basic Seat" with in one lesson. Campers may work on their
Compulsories (the 6 basic movements), a free style routine, a pairs or
triple or perhaps a team presentation. Vaulting is a popular attraction
on Sunday presentations and campers show their skills in individual and
group demonstrations.
Just like our riding program, for
campers that would like to focus just on vaulting for most program
hours of their camp day, we have implemented two programs to cover
their needs. For the "love it" group that would like to perhaps have an
hour or two to rest or do other programs we have the Vaulters 'R Us program. For the "gotta have it" group that want to vault, vault, vault we have the Vaulting Lovers Specialty week. Because of their intense nature, these programs are only offered on select weeks of camp.
Vaulting has become so popular at Cedar Lodge, that CL has added
Vaulting weekends
to it's year around schedule. These weekends are open to campers that
are interested in working on their vaulting during the off season, and
are serious about wanting to improve their skills. It is not a
requirement that you compete with Cedar Lodge if you want to come to a
vaulting weekend. If you are interested in a vaulting weekend and
wonder whether you qualify, please contact the camp office for more
information. These students have the option of joining Cedar Lodge's
vaulting team and entering local competitions that Cedar Lodge is
participating in.
All campers that have the option of vaulting with Cedar Lodge
year around may chose to compete with the CL team as well. There are
special requirements for the CL team, and those interested to contact the
Cedar Lodge office.
