Kendra

Full time Riding and Vaulting Instructor

HEY!! My name is Kendra Edwards, and I’m on staff again! (They can’t seem to keep me away!)  Get excited for this summer-I know I already am! Anyways, for those of you who don’t know me… by the time this summer rolls around, I’ll be a graduate of Albion College (psychology major, anthropology and sociology minor) Kendra coaches vaultingIf all goes as planned I’ll be heading to Chicago for graduate school in the fall. I’ve grown up at Cedar Lodge my entire life and can’t imagine a summer without it. I love riding and vaulting, so this summer I’ll be working in the full time barn position teaching both. I can’t wait for that!  In other summers I have been found on the lawn doing various games as well, but I expect the barn will keep me busy enough to fill my days. So come to camp ready to have an amazingly sweet summer, because I’ve heard through the grapevine that we have an AWESOME group of staff so far. I’m absolutely stoked. I cannot wait to see everyone’s smiling and happy faces again!!

Arts and Crafts, Archery, Senior Unit, Biking

Hi there! I'm new to Cedar Lodge but not new to camp life. Back in 2002 and 2003 I have been teaching arts and crafts, woodworking and archery at a summer camp in Maine. Currently I finish my studies of English and History in Münster, Germay. That's also the reason why I couldn't come back to the US earlier. Now, however, I am really excited to have the opportunity to teach these things at camp again. We have several ideas how we will use some of the woodworking skills and techniques in arts and crafts – so you will see exciting combined projects coming out of there. Also I hope to meet you at the archery range – what a great hobby. No matter whether you like the tension before you release the arrow, the unity of bow, archer and movements or the technical aspect provided by modern bows – there is something in for you for sure. Furthermore you will find me cycling and doing my favorite sport: Andre in the summerCapoeira, a mixture of Brazilian music, dance and martial arts – and of course you are welcome to participate. Lastly I will coordinate and accompany the senior unit. Probably we will do a lot of cleaning and maintenance in the woods but also some painting and small building projects. It's going to be an exiting summer for sure. I can hardly wait to meet everyone at camp!

Alannah and her horsesAlannah
Riding instructor

Hey! My name is Alannah, I’m 19 & I’m from Auckland (The City of Sails) in New Zealand. This will be my first time at Camp & my first visit to the United States & I’m really looking forward to it. I have been riding & competing since I was 4 years old. I started off in the show ring in the Lead rein ring with my Mum & have progressed through different height ponies. I now have 2 horses (Jack & Ozzie) & I still have my favorite pony Rosco. We are in the middle of our show season & we are off in a week to our Horse of the Year show. I’m really looking forward to that.

I enjoy teaching kids & seeing them improve & do the best they can. I would like to share the skills I have learnt over my years of riding to others.
At the moment I’m working at New World in Orewa which is the local supermarket and riding my horses. I live near the beach which I love going to! My Dad has a yacht which I enjoy sailing on. I also like hanging out with mates and my boyfriend, going to parties, movies & listening to music.
I can’t wait to come to Cedar Lodge to meet loads of new people, work hard & have lots fun!!!

Kali at Twin CitiesKali
Full time Riding and Vaulting instructor
I am 23 years old and grew up riding and going to summer camp at Cedar Lodge. In fact, there are not many horses at Cedar Lodge that I haven’t ridden. I have worked several summers for Cedar Lodge as junior staff, program staff and full time barn. I am a small Kali Climbingtown girl but have spent 8 months of the last year living and working in Amsterdam, Netherlands. I graduated in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry from a small liberal arts school and I have a variety of interests that extend beyond the horses; like rock climbing and living history reenactments. After a summer of taking classes and working construction and another summer in Europe it is time to come back to my roots and where I am truly happy. Camp.  You’ll be able to find me all summer working and playing in the barn, teaching riding and vaulting as well as leading the horseback overnights. Kali and JugheadI truly miss teaching and cannot wait for summer to get here. I taught a vaulting class at Cedar Lodge this past fall and I hope to use some of the skills and tricks I’ve learned vaulting in Europe with you this summer.  For lack of a better expression; I’m super excited! And I hope you are too!  See you soon!

WenWen
Arts and Crafts, Swimming

Hey Everyone I'm Wen, I'm 20 years young and l love CAMP!! Im from originally from just south of Birmingham, however I spend more time living at camp than at home as I live in Cardiff, Wales most of the year. I study Fine Art and I am hoping to specialize in Sculpture- as I love to get messy and have lots of fun experimenting with new things. I've missed camp so much this year, so i've decided to come back again for Summer 2010, even if I cant stop singing all the camp songs all year! This will be my second summer at Cedar Lodge, and i cant wait! Wen supports her cabinThis Summer, last summer after camp i went traveling and i saw some incredible things like St. louis arch, Mount Rush moor and Niagara falls, but was ready to come back to camp after that- unfortunately i had to return to the UK for school though. This summer i will be spending lots of time in arts and crafts as well as on the waterfront- especially on those hot days when everyone just wants to be in the lake! In arts and crafts we are going to be doing loads of NEW activities that will be great for everyone to join in with, and hopefully you will all leave camp learning something new. Im going to be creating some group projects as well as having some cool little creations- my head is just buzzing with ideas already!! So this summer i hope to see all of you guys hitting Arts and Crafts because i know u know its the coolest place to be!! I really cant wait to see you all, Hope your counting down to the start of camp just like me!

I know she'll be around some.............

Allison

Riding Instructor, Camping, Folk Dance and Lore, Land Sports, Singing, Hiking, Nature, Bugs, Camp Band, Canoing, Waterfront, Funny Stuff

With some many great old faces to see and so many wonderful new faces to meet, how could I possibly resist coming back to camp for yet another summer.  I would just miss the fun way too much. Those who know me know I love camp. I love the culture of camp, the philosophy of camp and all the great things camp gives to campers like you. In my 25 years, I have only ever missed two summers. For me, camp is a way of life. I am eager to see you all this summer and to do what I love. Which is share with you this wonderful place called Cedar Lodge, and to help you learn, grow, and have fun.

If you want to know where you can find me this summer, you will have to do some searching around. I will spend a lot of my time at the waterfront lifeguarding for free swim, boating, and other activities at the lake. You will also find my hiking in the woods, keeping Sr. unit in line, making friendship bracelets in the A&C, playing SPUD on the lawn, and maybe even in the barn on occasion. And If you ask nicely, I will even teach you to hang a spoon off of your nose (and other important life skills that you only learn at camp)

What about my none-camp life you may wonder. Well, I graduated from Kalamazoo College in 04' with a BA in psychology.  I spent 8 months living, working, and traveling in Africa. Now I am working and hopefully starting graduate school in the fall to get my Master's.  In my free time, I read, do yoga and swim laps to keep my lifeguarding muscles in tip top shape for camp.

Don't forget the Senoir Junior Staff :

Kim and a monkeyKim!

Hey everyone, I'm Kim! I'm from Grosse Pointe, Michigan, which is about 15 minutes or so away from Detroit. Currently I'm a senior at my high school and am loving it. But I can't lie and say I'm not excited for Summer 2010! I'm no newcomer to the grounds of cedar lodge and I look forward to getting in another summer with my chillun' before I head off to study at college; I just couldn't stay away! But in the meantime I'll busy myself with tennis (which Kitchen Amy Kim doing Thrillernever beat me at, don't let her tell you otherwise), music and other pastimes. I love trying new things and am always up for a good time, and enjoy creating laughs in the process.  I enjoy being active and outdoors, and can't wait to soak up the Kim doing Thrillersummer sun in Lawrence while I work on my tan! As for what I'll be doing during my stint at camp, you'll most likely find me following orders and working hard behind the scenes to make your camp experience amazing! I can hardly wait until summer when I get to see all the kids having fun. So get geared up everyone, because it's summer 2010 and I'm coming!
