2006 October Updates

Sadly, this summer we lost a dear friend to our family, Sadie. Sadie was Stella's faithful dog. In the middle of September, Stella was told about a dog that needed a home. This dog had been owned by a family that decided that they had too many dogs and it was time to down size. After a short meeting, it was an obvious match. NewStella decided that new dog needed a new name and that name should be "Jazzy".

Jazzy has certainly been working hard at making her name at Cedar Lodge. Sadly, for the 2 years previous to coming to live with us, Jazzy had been tied in a back yard. Our belief now is that she is determined to spend every waking hour filled doing something. Her favorite place is the lake or the creek and so far, no matter what the weather, she does a traditional dive in the creek on the way to chores. Brrrrrrr!!!!! Jazzy also enjoys our runs and walks in the woods, and our house is now cluttered with her numerous play toys, some we have given to her, and some stolen from Spot (who seems to like the attention). Petie and Jazzy, who were to say the least, NOT friends, and NOT playing nice, are now best of friends. Kind of a big brother, obnoxious little sister relationship. Jazzy knows all about all of you, and is very eagerly awaiting Riding weekends, Vaulting weekends, and winter camp. We can't wait, either. We need some willing youth to help us with all Jazzy's energy!

13th-15th:Riding Weekend

1st-30th:Riding, Riding, Riding

28th:

You may think it strange that it started with a dream, but that's the truth. It started with a dream, and not one that I will share, because it was too disjointed, but the end result was that I awoke in the morning thinking that we really needed to see if we could get a second vaulting horse, and this was the perfect time for us to work on one if we found it. I threw my thoughts out to Chris during morning chores who was very agreeable with both my concerns and my thoughts. We decided to aggressively pursue a couple of draft horses that we had heard were for sale in the spring, long after we had decided we had our horse line up for the summer. These thoughts led to phone calls, and phone calls led to house visits. It turned out that horse number one had been sold, but the new owners had just decided to sell again. Horse number two was still for sale, and a nice mare, but a bit small. Our favorite was horse number one, and so, on Monday, Horse number one came to Cedar Lodge for a 3 week trial. Chris was determined to change horse number one's name and of this writing it has been narrowed, but not decided on. We will temporarily call him number one. #1 is a 12 year old, 16.0 hand Percheron gelding. He is sweet, kind and quiet. He has a wonderful canter. The biggest problem is that #1 is VERY out of shape, and #1 is currently showing some signs of lameness. We are hoping that #1 will go sound so that we can keep him! His owner has assured us that it is only becuase #1 just had his shoes removed. The hope is to have #1 with some knowledge of vaulting before the CL Vaulting clinic in November 18th, so that we can try him with our many vaulters. After that, we will be deciding for sure if #1 will be staying at Cedar Lodge. Hopefully by then he will also have a name!
