Camp Riding and Vaulting Programs

Bronze Riding or Vaulting Plan

Our Bronze Riding or Vaulting plan is a great affordable plan for those that enjoy riding or vaulting but also enjoy everything else at camp. Campers choose to ride or vault daily for one program period and receive an instructional class for 5 days, with an optional trail ride or practice ride on the 6th. Two week riding campers will also have the option of a dinner trial ride. The rest of their day, campers will be free to chose from the many other great general programs at camp. If campers decide this program is just not enough horse time for them, or they would like to do both riding AND vaulting, they should look into the Silver or Gold riding and vaulting plans.

For the serious equestrian camper that wants to come to camp and do pretty much horses all day long we offer the Gold Plans! Campers will need to choose on whether they would like to focus on their riding or their vaulting. They will receive two lessons/day in their preferred focus, but still will receive lessons in the other focus if they desire. Additionally, specialty rides and ground lessons can fill their day with pretty much horses all day, every day. All programs are optional (as long as they inform their instructor if they are opting out) for those days that perhaps they decide they would like to do something non horsey, or just need to relax a bit. Frequently Asked Questions:

Q) Do I have to come to my lessons daily? No. Just make sure you tell your instructor if you’re not coming to your riding class. Vaulting is done on a drop in basis. There is a great selection of general programs at camp and we understand! If you decide not to ride however, there will be no reimbursement for lessons missed.

Q) What are Specialty rides? Specialty rides are held 4-5 days during the week in the afternoon and campers in the Silver and Gold programs may opt to sign up for this class for an additional chance to ride. These ride opportunities are divided equally amongst riders in the silver and gold programs. Riders will be asked if they would like to attend 2-3 times during each week. The amount of ride opportunities a particular camper will get may vary but will be no less than twice/week. Riders often want to try riding bareback, or use this time to practice on the flat what they practice during their lessons under supervision.

Q) What other horse programs are offered? All riders and vaulters are qualified to attend ground lectures and special classes held throughout the week designed to encourage personal growth in every rider. Examples of classes are braiding, horse management, horse physiology, breeds, colors, conformation and training the young horse. Campers that attend regularly can work on four levels of Ground Lecture certifications that Cedar Lodge offers as part of a rider’s education.

Campers that sign up for a riding program (they must be taking riding lessons not vaulting lessons) for at least 2 weeks or more are offered the additional horse program called the Dinner Trail Ride on Orchard Hill. During this event, they get to trail ride their horses, spend time with staff cooking dinner over a fire, and play games all while enjoying the watch of the horses in their pasture.
